Hi everyone. Littlehand posted these imagines in another forum. My question.

Were these actual sketches of Isandlwana? One looks like before the Battle and one after the battle. Or are they just how Isandlwana was imagined to be. I know Crealock was into Sketching and he was there before and after the Battle. So was wondering if he had sketched them.

I"m not 100 % sure , but my take is drawn from Memory , I dont think these where done by Crealock .
In the after the attack picture it all seems to neat , like the tents have been struck , where we know that
wasnt the case , and in the real aftermath of the attack there was hardly a tent left as they were all burnt
or taken by the zulus to be used as a form of conveying bodies or looted equipment.

These sketches were reproduced by Adrian Greaves in 'Isandlawana'. In the credits he attribiyes them to his own collection but doesnt mention the Artist. Looks to crude for Crealock or any of the established sketch artists.

A well known zulu war historian informs me , he has seen the sketches before and they were attributed to
George Smith. Who didnt get past R.Drift ! , It seems they were either drawn by memory or the most likely
theory drawn from someone else"s recollections to an artist who hadnt been to Isandlwana.

Was there really such a big track passing through the middle of the camp ?

I have Lock and Quantrill"s print taken of the camp before the battle , it also has a fairly
pronounced track running through the camp. I myself dont think it would have been much
more than a better than average wagon track , but , I maybe wrong .

The track was merely a traders track so would have been quite narrow, it would have only been widened if the waggons had gone over it in mass. I dont recall that Chelmsford took any wagons with him?
